RECORD STORE DAY 2012: A REFLECTION
April 21st, Record Stores across the world opened up shop early to a rare sight these days..people queuing around the block to ensure they are the first customer of the day, and that they can bag the special limited editions/reissues released that day.
It’s a double edged sword said one record store owner… this is one of our busiest days of the year, but we always see faces that have NEVER been in before, sweeping up all the ltd editions, and then, I suspect, putting them all on Ebay. We’re not allowed to save stock for regulars, who REALLY keep the store going, so it’s quite a bitter sweet taste…
The regulars though turned out in force to celebrate, with live music on the street, while we all fought off the weather and impending bar tab around the corner.
Thank you to SPEECH FEWAPY who helped again put this event on, and to JOHN J PRESLEY, HORSE FEATHERS, GOD DAMN and ALI FORBES for playing.
And to POLAR BEAR RECORDS in KINGS HEATH. Become a regular.
Thanks
